I'm not sure I would apply the word 'violence' to most animals (not to a bird eating a snail, or a cat chasing and eating a mouse). That animal hunter instinct (which humans have mostly lost) is something so intrinsic, and that word 'violence' does imply some sort of wrong-doing. I guess a lot of human violence comes out of a violent mindset which most other animals don't have. Perhaps a violent mindset only occurs at a certain level of sentience - I'm thinking a gang of monkeys attacking someone for no apparent reason. And that could also apply to using the term 'violent'?
